Missiles, gigatanks, battleships, all are pretty expensive for what they do but regardless they all have uses that can support you army greatly when used in the right situation. Don't get me wrong you'll mostly just have Inf, tanks, Bcopters, anti-air, artillery, and maybe a few medium tanks or rockets in most of your army but the point is nothing is useless. Always try to produce at least an infantry unit for every base you have but it's fine if you need to save 1000 for a medium tank or something.Įvery unit in the game has a purpose and it's just about bringing the right one for the job. You almost never want to have a base that's not producing units for a turn. This mostly just applies to infantry but it also applies to other units for things like anti armor / air capabilities. Unit count is also pretty important for keeping your army protected and overwhelming the enemy. Keeping a lot of infantry around is good for protecting more valuable units, speeding up the capture process, and they're extremely versatile in attack and defense. You may already know this but I know that I didn't use infantry well when I started off in advance wars.
Infantry is probably one of if not the most important unit in your arsenal.
Speaking of that Advance Wars by Web is a website for advance wars pvp matches i'd go there but netplay also works I think (never tried it before). If you want better advice from experts or just better players than me then join the advance wars by web discord. I'm not exactly the best at PvP but I have some tips that served me well for a while. TL DR: Spam infantry, unit count is important, and join the discord linked below for tips from experts and better advice This sub seems active and going to dedicated subreddits always seems to be really helpful so I apologize this question is so basic but does anyone know where to go and what to do to learn anything more than the absolute basic strategy of the game? It doesn't help that apparently one of the biggest YouTubers for the game has just had the spotlight thrown on him in a negative light, so that makes things awkward. I think that could be fun but I feel like I just need a guiding hand so I'm not just bashing my head against a wall.

The problem is it's hard to find a guide that isn't about how to beat the AI, and I'd like to get better than that so I can play against other people, because I'm pretty positive I've heard AW netplay is a thing. I feel like I'm not making the right opening moves and prioritizing the right units at the right time. I've seen CO tier lists and I know who's good and who's not and why for each, the problem is just that my overall tactics and strategy are bad. Like I said, I really like DS but the more I think about it, the more I think 2 might overall be the best one to play against others, so I'd like to focus on those two because they seem the most fun.

I've suddenly been getting back into the series and I'd really like to put some time in to actually get good at the games. I struggled in the end game missions and against War Room AIs and always ended up getting overwhelmed. Even back then tho, I knew I was really bad at the game. Hey, I used to play a ton of Advance Wars Dual Strike, I liked the whole series but DS was my jam back in the day.
